| With 22 miles of shoreline, there's much to do at Lopez Lake: fishing, camping, boating, water skiing, sailing, picnicking, hiking, canoeing, and birdwatching. Summer days are warm and sunny with lake temperatures around seventy degrees. Winter days are mostly clear and very pleasant, perfect for fishing, hiking, and just relaxing between day trips around the Central Coast.

| Created by the construction of the Salinas Dam in 1941, the lake was originally designed to furnish water to Camp San Luis Obispo. Today it is a major source of drinking water for the City of San Luis Obispo.
