| With 22 miles of shoreline, there's much to do at Lopez Lake: fishing, camping, boating, water skiing, sailing, picnicking, hiking, canoeing, and birdwatching. Summer days are warm and sunny with lake temperatures around seventy degrees. Winter days are mostly clear and very pleasant, perfect for fishing, hiking, and just relaxing between day trips around the Central Coast.

| Montaņa de Oro State Park features over 8,000 acres of rugged cliffs, secluded sandy beaches, coastal plains,streams, canyons, and hills with 1,347-foot Valencia Peak. The best-known beach is Spooner's Cove, across from the campground. The park's name, "Mountain of Gold," comes from the golden wildflowers that bloom in spring.

| Created by the construction of the Salinas Dam in 1941, the lake was originally designed to furnish water to Camp San Luis Obispo. Today it is a major source of drinking water for the City of San Luis Obispo.
